Market Research

These detailed whitepapers explore market dynamics in key sectors related to renewable energy and development initiatives. Each report reflects independent research and strategic analysis, offering insight into emerging trends, investment risks, and policy implications.

FertilizerMkt.png

This comprehensive analysis of the US Fertilizer market for usage in improving returns for renewable biogas projects was completed as an independent project in late 2022. With the overinflation of the fertilizer market due to the Russo-Ukrainian war, many believed that substantial investments in fertilizer production via digestate would be beneficial. As predicted by the report, the fertilizer market price dropped dramatically, and though domestically produced fertilizers have immense potential, this is unlikely to be recognized until there is either a. government incentives for production, or b. critical mass of deteriorated soil levels resulting in lower elasticity of demand.

Equity Analysis

These equity analyses, largely completed during the COVID pandemic as part of my Master’s in Quantitative Finance, review a number of mid- to large-cap equities, primarily in the industrial and renewable energy sectors. The reports proved to be remarkably accurate over a short- to mid-term time horizon and contributed to significant returns for the BC Endowment Fund.

This equity analysis, completed 10/12/2020, looked at renewable energy megacap NextEra energy. The company was undergoing transformative M&A opportunities, and their vertical integration was a power driver of returns. With a BUY rating and target price of $317.00*, this analysis would prove to be an exceptional recommendation, generating a 14.2% return over a period of just 3 months.

*Price target of $317 was developed prior to 4:1 stock split

This report following the manufacturing midcap Magna International recommended a HOLD rating, due in large part to the company's overvalued stock price combined with significant debt burden. Post-publishing of this analysis, the beta of the stock remained between 1.05-1.30 for the next 2 years, indicating that the HOLD recommendation was accurate.

NEM.png

This report on leading ore mining company Newmont, noted strong company performance on the backdrop of a weakening industry. Boston College Endowment Fund was strongly considering sale of this asset in early 2020 due to the weakening mining industry and relatively underperformance of commodity-correlated assets compared to the S&P; however, this report convinced the Endowment Officers to maintain their position in this stock. This resulted in one of the highest single-asset returns within the portfolio, growing a staggering 63.2% from purchase in Oct 2019 to sale in Feb 2022.

Data Analysis

These data analytics tools, developed as part of my work in renewable infrastructure, assess the financial and geographic suitability of utility-scale solar projects. By combining publicly available data sets and APIs with industry knowledge and development heuristics, the models provide rapid, transparent evaluations of solar project economics. Built for both internal use and as demonstration tools, they reflect a practical, data-driven approach to siting and underwriting renewable energy assets.

solarpy.png

This solar project site evaluation tool helps assess the viability of utility-scale solar projects based on geolocation, panel type, and contracted pricing. By integrating real-time irradiance and energy price data, the tool generates a site score (0–100) that balances solar potential, climate risk, and revenue competitiveness.
